Born in Mahone Bay, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Emmeline (Mader) Sawler. In her earlier years, Hazel was a care giver for infants, and then went to work at various business in Lunenburg, Wong's Restaurant, Lee Hatt's Store, IGA and then retired from Simpson's in 1971. Born in Mahone Bay, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Emmeline (Mader) Sawler. In her earlier years, Hazel was a care giver for infants, and then went to work at various business in Lunenburg, Wong's Restaurant, Lee Hatt's Store, IGA and then retired from Simpson's in 1971. She and her husband, Freeman operated for a Bed and Breakfast from their home for 15 years where they had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people. Hazel was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church, Lunenburg and a member of the ELW. She was an avid knitter and enjoyed making crafts with friends and in earlier years she and her husband Freeman sold many of her crafts at the Lunenburg Craft Festival. Hazel loved life and enjoyed special times with family and friends. Her warm smile, gentle spirit, and genuine love shown through expressions of care and compassion will be missed by all those who were blessed to know her. She is survived by her husband, Freeman, sister, Gailyn (Russell) Risser, Dean's Corner; brother, Linwood, Nanaimo, BC.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Alvin. Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg. A memorial service to celebrate Hazel's life will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Lunenburg, Rev. Vivian S. Roberts officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg. Flowers from the immediate family only, memorial donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Fishermen's Memorial Hospital or to a charity of your choice.
