Williams, 88, of 1606 Loomis St. in Winfield, passed away Sept. 14, 1987, at the Medicalodge in Douglass, Ks. Born February 9, 1899 at Hart's Mill near Hewins, Ks., she was one of nine children born to George and Emma Polson Parks. She received her education in Hewins and rural Cedar Vale schools, and later received her teaching certificate at the College of Emporia. She was employed as a teacher in Chautauqua County Rural and the Elgin, Kansas schools as a young woman, and was united in marriage to Kale A. Williams, June 1, 1923 at the home of her parents in Cedar Vale. The couple made their first home in Elgin, moving to Cedar Vale in 1929. The Williams' owned and operated the Chevrolet Auto Dealership in Cedar Vale for 35 years, moving to a farm south of Winfield in 1957. Mr. Williams preceded her in death April 13, 1967, and she had continued to reside in Winfield until moving to Douglass Medicalodge in July. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winfield, and was formerly affiliated with the Order of the Eastern Star in Cedar Vale. A devoted mother and grandmother, her favorite interests included sewing. Her family includes three sons: Kale A. Williams, Jr., of Chicago, Ill., Bill Williams of Hutchinson, Ks., and Dick Williams of Kingwood, Tx.; four daughters, Joan Cornett, 1606 Loomis, Winfield, Mrs. Ross (Barbara) McGinnis, Rt. 3, Douglass, Ks., Mrs. Bob (Pat) McGlasson, Bartlesville, Ok., and Mrs. Jeff (Nancy) Richards, Rose Hill, Ks.; 21 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and many friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two infant children, and by eight brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 16 at Cedar Vale Cemetery. Miles Memorial Chapel in Winfield was in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established in her name with Medicalodge in Douglass. Contributions may be made at Medicalodge or at the funeral home. Rev. Mike Brazle officiated. Casketbearers were her grandsons: Kale L. Williams, Mark Williams, Lincoln McGinnis, David Maddox, Andrew McGinnis, Carl Johnson, Greg Richards, Galen Rawlins, and Mike Williams.
