Chicki passed away in Mesa, Arizona on September 25, 2015 at the age of 90. Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill is in charge of local arrangements. Hazel Iler was born in Fairfax, South Dakota on November 10, 1924 to Leonard and Claire Iler. She spent the early part of her life in Dallas, South Dakota. In 1938, after the death of their mother, Chicki and her five sisters moved to O’Neill, Nebraska where they lived with their aunt, Esther Downey, and her husband Sumner. Chicki and her sisters lived in the O’Neill Photo Company building and all of them worked in the Photo Company business while they lived in O’Neill. Chicki graduated from St. Mary’s in 1942 and attended Duchesne College in Omaha for one year. After one year in Duchesne she was accepted to the Parsons School of Fashion Design and moved to New York City. Chicki moved back to O’Neill in 1948 and worked at the O’Neill Photo Company until she retired. She moved to Hendersonville, NC, married Paul Kubitschek and they made their home in Mesa, AZ. She enjoyed being with her family, cooking, sewing and playing bridge and hosting bridge games in Mesa. Chicki is survived by her children, Ellen Braesch of Omaha, Bill Artus of Anchorage, AK, and Nancy Burch and husband John of Omaha; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three sisters, Lou Axtell of Newton, Iowa, Dottie Whiteside of Las Vegas, NV and Glee Thomas and Keith of Chandler, AZ; several nieces and nephews.
