Funeral services for Hazel Foster were held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn. The Rev. Carol Myers, pastor of the Malcom and Sheridan United Methodist Churches, officiated. The musician was Marilyn Kriegel and the soloist was Marty Duffus. Interment was in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom. A memorial fund has been established. Hazel Margaret Duffus Foster was born August 12, 1916, on a farm south of Malcom. Her parents were Fred Duffus and Myrtle Ferneau Duffus. Hazel graduated from high school and worked as a swing maid at Grinnell College, worked at the Maid Rite in Grinnell, and did house cleaning. On March 25, 1936, Hazel was married to Alvin Maynard Foster in Des Moines. They were the parents of two sons, Gerald and Marvin. They farmed many years south of Brooklyn. In recent years she was a resident of Brooklyn Community Estates. She was a member of the HGL Club and enjoyed spending time doing various things with her friends. Her family was very important to her. Her parents; a son, Marvin Foster; and brother, Harold Foster (This surname is wrong. It should be Duffus) preceded her in death. Surviving are her son, Gerald and wife Cindy of Oregon; a daughter-in-law, Joan Foster of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Harry Duffus of Grinnell; her gandchildren, Anthony Foster and wife, Cindy, of Oregon, Bradly Foster and wife, Annette, of Ft. Collins, Colo., Marlene Johnson and husband, Anthony, of Oregon; Karen Smith and husband, John, of Ely; and nine great-grandchildren.
