Description	:	Hazel Deemy, age 93, of Cottonwood Falls, KS, died Friday, April 10, 2015, at Golden Living Center of Chase County in Cottonwood Falls. The daughter of Ben, Jr. and Ruby Varelman, she was born March 24, 1922, in Emporia, KS. She and Verlan F. Deemy, Sr. were married March 23, 1940, in Topeka, KS. He died October 4, 1976. Hazel worked for the telephone company as an operator and operated a wallpapering and painting business. She completed her GED at age 69 and went on to get additional computer training and worked as a receptionist/ bookkeeper. ... Read More	Hazel Deemy, age 93, of Cottonwood Falls, KS, died Friday, April 10, 2015, at Golden Living Center of Chase County in Cottonwood Falls. The daughter of Ben, Jr. and Ruby Varelman, she was born March 24, 1922, in Emporia, KS. She and Verlan F. Deemy, Sr. were married March 23, 1940, in Topeka, KS. He died October 4, 1976. Hazel worked for the telephone company as an operator and operated a wallpapering and painting business. She completed her GED at age 69 and went on to get additional computer training and worked as a receptionist/ bookkeeper. She was particular about the quality of her work and was always busy helping others. She sold Avon products for years. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Council Grove and a member of the Altar Society. She is survived by two sons: Dan Deemy (Mary) of Waxahachie, TX and Verlan Deemy, Jr. (Margaret) of Strong City; 18 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Richard Deemy; a daughter, Myrna Deemy; a great-grandson, Ian Lockwood; and a great-granddaughter, Angela Deemy Sarracino. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, at 10:00 AM, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Council Grove with celebrant, Father Theodore Khin. Interment of cremated remains will be held, immediately following the Mass, in Calvary Cemetery in Council Grove. The family will meet friends Sunday, April 19, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls. Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society may be sent in care of the funeral home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
