II Timothy 4:6-8. Mrs. Hazel Virginia Vaughn Easter, 83, of Cana, VA, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born June 4, 1925, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Charlie and Lillie Chapel Vaughn. She was a homemaker and a retired teacher's assistant at St. Paul School. She was a faithful member of Paul's Creek Baptist Church for over 60 years. She was a dear mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, and friend. She was a loving and precious person, a caretaker for so many, always putting herself last, living a devoted Christian life, and was always wearing a smile. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. Mrs. Easter is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mildred and Dennis Stanley of Elkin; sons and daughters-in-law, Junior Easter, Ronnie and Jeanie Easter, and Roger and Debbie Easter, all of Cana, VA, and Jeff and Tracy Easter of Galax, VA; sixteen grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Orminta Fulk and Rachel and James Utt, all of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Margaret Vaughn of Mount Airy; and a special caretaker, Tammy Turner of Cana, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Easter was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Easter; and four sons, Charles Easter, Donnie Easter, Kenneth Easter, and Herschel Easter. The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Paul's Creek Baptist Church, by the Rev. Larry Jones and the Rev. Johnny Easter. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where the body will remain until the time to be taken to the church to lie-in-state one hour prior to the service.
