Having been in failing health for some time, Mr. Russell suddenly took a turn for the worse during the early hours of the morning at the age of 64 years. Heber Smith Russell, third son of Adam and Hannah M. Child Russell, was born at Riverdale, Utah on Aug 27, 1884. He received his schooling in the public schools in Utah. Late in the 1890's the Russell family was called along with a number of others, on a colonization mission to Southern Alberta by the LDS Church, and they were among the pioneers who settled in the Stirling district. Married in Utah In 1906 the Russell family moved to Taber where they continued in the farming business, and on Oct 2, 1912, Heber S. Russell and Thursa Laretta Layton of Cardston were married in the LDS Temple at Salt Lake City, Utah. The deceased continued as a farmer for some years, later opening a barber shop in Taber which he operated until about two years before his passing when he retired from business because of failing health. They have six living children: Mrs. Jeanna Stanford of Taber, Orvin of Glenwood, Mrs. Carla Grover of Wrentham, Mrs. Eddis Neilson of White Swan,Washington, and at home a daughter and son, Delva and Keith. There are seven grandchildren. Left to mourn besides the immediate family are five brothers and one sister. William F. Russell and John H Russell of Lethbridge, Louis Russell & George Russell of Ogden, David Russell and Mrs. Sally Edwards of Taber. Mr. Russell was a highly respected citizen of Taber and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a member of the High Priests' Quorum, of which he was secretary for a number of years. He was an ardent genealogical worker and taught a Sunday school class for many years. Funeral services will be conducted from the Taber LDS Church Sunday afternoon, April 3, at 2:30 pm, and interment will be in the Taber cemetery.
