RECKEWEY DIES Theo. Reckewey, 60, of Byron, died suddenly Sunday morning of a heart attack while driving his car from the post office to his home. Born at Elk Creek, Nebr., he had been a druggist at Byron for 40 years. Survivors include his wife, Edith; two daughters, Mrs. Malcolm T. Doil, Lincoln, and Mrs. Verland Tietjen, Byron; two brothers, William, Lincoln, and Clarence, Adams; and a sister, Mrs. Paul Becker, Seward. Funeral services are being held this afternoon at the Byron Lutheran Church. ========================================= Chester Herald (Chester, NE), Wednesday, February 10, 1954; pg. 1 Obituary - THEODORE RECKEWEY Heinrich August Wilhelm Theodore Reckewey, eldest child of John H. and Wilhelmina, born Baucke, was born in Elk Creek, Nebr., June 9, 1893. He departed this life January 31, 1954 at the age of 60 years, 7 months, and 22 days. On June 25, 1893 he was received into the fold of Christ through Holy Baptism in St. Peter's Lutheran Church Elk Creek, Nebr. Soon after the turn of the century the Reckewey family moved to Linn, Kans. When he was 11 years old his mother passed away. This loss was somehwat relieved several years later when a faithful stepmother, Mrs. Wilhelmina Beeker joined the family circle. He renewed his baptismal vow in the service of confirmation in Zion Lutheran Church in Linn, Kans., March 24, 1907. After graduating from the School of Pharmacy in Kansas City, he remained in Linn, Kans., until 40 years ago last Saturday, when he came to Byron to open a pharmacy here. The success in his lifes (sic) work is attested by the very large number of associates and friends he gained during these years. He served on the Village Board of Byron for 10 years and was president of the Byron Co-op Credit Association since its organization in 1934. He was a member of the men's chorus and brotherhood of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. For 37 years he gave of his time and talents to help strengthen and improve our educational system. With wisdom, sound judgment and zeal he recently promoted the cause of a rural high school for this area. On February 14, 1915, he was united in marriage with Edith Rebbeke of Linn, Kans. To this union two daughters were born, Norma (Mrs. Malcolm Doil) of Lincoln and Merna (Mrs. Verland Tietjen) of Byron. He has one granddaughter, Sarah Jean Tietjen. Besides his wife, two daughters and granddaughter, he leaves to mourn a sister, Mrs. Paul Becker of Seward, Nebr.; and brothers, Clarence Reckewey of Adams; William of Lincoln; Hetty, Mr. (sic) A.H. Kohrs of Los Angeles, Calif., Martin of National City, Colo.; Selma, Mrs. B.E Rust of Marysville, Wash.; Mrs. Leta B. Johnson of Los Angeles, Calif., and Waldemar of Van Nuys, Calif.; a stepbrother, Roland Becker of Minneapolis, Minn. A number of distant relatives and many friends. Funeral services were conducted by Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart of Belleville, Feb. 3 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Byron, at 2 p.m. with Pastor O. Reeg officiating. Interment was made in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. The sermon text was James 4:13-15, "Lifes Tomorrow." The pallbearers were Clarence, Wm. and Waldemar Reckewey, Paul Becker, George Beverly and Sherman Lull.
