Description	:	Henry Ernest Reiling, a son of Henry Reiling and his wife Wilhemina, nee Toelle, was born October 5, 1842, at Meinberg in the principality of Lippe, Germany. At this place he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. When he had reached the age of nine years his father died and three years later also his mother. Read More	Henry Ernest Reiling, a son of Henry Reiling and his wife Wilhemina, nee Toelle, was born October 5, 1842, at Meinberg in the principality of Lippe, Germany. At this place he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. When he had reached the age of nine years his father died and three years later also his mother. Late in the year 1868 the young man left the Fatherland and came to Hampton, Rock Island county, Illinois. On December 22 of the same year he joined in marriage with Miss Friederike Altrook. This union was blessed with thirteen children, five sons and eight daughters. In the month of April 1870, Mr. and Mrs. Reiling came to Seward County, Nebraska, and settled on a farm four and one-half miles northwest of Staplehurst, being quite successful at the enterprise. The deceased was a charter member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Congregation of Marysville, which was organized in 1870. To show the esteem in which he was held by the said congregation, we will state that he served that body as a deacon for thirty years. In 1902, he was, upon his own request, relieved of such service. Since June 1910, he had his residence in Staplehurst, transferring also his church membership to Immanuel Lutheran Congregation of Staplehurst. December 22, 1918, this congregation and many members of the Marysville congregation and other friends joined with Mr. and Mrs. Reiling in public worship commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage. August 23, 1925, he suffered a severe blow, when his beloved wife departed this life. Ever after this his own strength failed perceptibly. After submitting to surgical treatment on the first of this month (April) his last physical reserve was rapidly exhausted and he passed away on Good Friday, April 15, 1927, at about 1 o'clock a.m., attaining an age of 84 years, 6 months and 10 days. As three of his children have passed away before him, ten children are left to mourn his death: Fred, Augusta, now Mrs. Henry Klepper; Louisa, now Mrs. Charles Wiemann; Mathilda, now Mrs. Herman Pflughaupt; Wilhelmina, now Mrs. August Wendt; Amalia, now Mrs. F. W. Meyer; Ida, now Mrs. William Baack; John, Hulda, now Mrs. Martin Hegeholz; and Martin, who is unmarried. In addtion to these there are 36 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and one brother. The funeral services for the deceased were held at Immanuel Lutheran church at Staplehurst Easter Monday afternoon, Rev. A. A. Schormann speaking words of comfort in the German language of John 14, 19, and Rev. W. F. Rittamel in English on 1 Kings 19:4. The remains were laid to rest in the Marysville cemetery.
