He was born July 3, 1910 in Kautz, Russia, a son of Jacob Reiter and Eva Knaub. He came to the United States with his family in February 1913, and arrived in Laurel on New Year's Day 1914. He became a U.S. citizen in 1935. He married Sarah Weil on Jan. 24, 1935 at First Congregational Church in Laurel. They farmed in Hardin for seven years, then had a farm east of Laurel. In 1959, they moved to their farm southeast of Laurel. Henry retired in 1972. He enjoyed traveling south during the winter months for 21 years. He was a member of First Congregational Church of Laurel. Henry is survived by his wife, Sarah, and their four children, Betty Kober, Marjorie Lenhart, H. James Reiter, and Robert L. Reiter; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, George Reiter and Herman Reiter; and one sister, Lydia Reiter. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Thursday, March 25, at First Congregational Church in Laurel with interment in the Laurel Cemetery. Smith-Cashmore Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
