Bergmann, well known farmer of Douglas township, died Saturday morning at one o'clock, after an illness of several months' duration. His funeral services were held by his pastor, Rev. Raum Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and 2:00 o'clock at the Lutheran church. He was 63 years of age. The deceased was born in Cook county, Ill., Sept. 17, 1867, and was within three weeks of 64 years old at the time of his death. He was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Carl Bergmann [Friedrich Heinrich Diedrich "Fred"] and in infancy was baptized in the Lutheran church. When he was two months old his parents came to Iowa and settled on a farm in Douglas township, near Siegel, and except for a few years when he lived in Waverly that place was his home during his life. He received his education in the parochial and public schools and when a young man and after being confirmed took up farming with his father. He was a successful farmer. Henry H. Bergman and Miss Mary Bergmann were united in marriage April 2, 1891, and the young couple went to housekeeping on a farm one mile north of his parents' home. A year later they moved onto another farm not far distant and that became their permanent home. They lived there until 1920 when their son and son-in-law took over the management and Mr. and Mrs. Bergmann came to Waverly to live. They resided in that city up to three years ago when they returned to the farm. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. William Baruth of Waterloo, two sons, Theodore of Readlyn and Erwin of Douglas township, ten grandchildren and his aged mother.
