She married Craig Stratemeyer on Aug 21, 1941 at Papillion, NE. They were the parents of David, Karl, and Karen. Schroeder Memorial Chapel - Helen Stratemeyer, age 90, of 1110 South Marshall Street, died at the Boone County Hospital on March 7, 2011. Her body has been cremated and a graveside service and burial of her cremains will be in the Carroll City Cemetery in Carroll in June. Helen was born in Gray, Iowa, on August 21, 1920, the daughter of Herman and Mildred (Signall) Bakken. She graduated from Gray High School and later received a Bachelor's Degree from Coe College. On August 21, 1941, Helen married Craig Stratemeyer at Papillion, Nebraska. The couple lived in Cedar Rapids from 1946 to 1978, and then lived in Overland Park and Leawood, Kansas, from 1978 to 2006, when they moved to Boone. Prior to her marriage to Craig, Helen was a teacher in the Dawson and Audubon School Districts. She later was a homemaker and enjoyed crafts, sewing, singing, playing piano, and party planning. On her 90th birthday last August, Helen held a gala celebration of her life with her family and friends. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in December of 2006. She is survived by two sons David Stratemeyer and wife Delphine of Hubbard and Karl Stratemeyer of Johnston; a daughter Karen Rogers and husband Kenneth of Singer Island, Florida; a sister Grace Walter of Carmel, California; two grandchildren Susan Thurmond and husband Milton of Iowa City and Steve Stratemeyer and wife Kari of Des Moines. Memorials may be directed to the family to be used at their discretion. Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall is in charge of the arrangements.
