Obit in Beatrice Daily Sun Helen A. Kerl, age 86 years, of Wymore, died Saturday, March 24, 2007, at the Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center. She was born Jan. 1, 1921, at Akron, Colo., and moved to the Pawnee City area at the age of nine. She was a 1938 graduate of Pawnee City High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1971. She taught in rural schools for several years, including teaching all three of her children at the same time in a rural school near Palmer, Neb. She retired from teaching from Barneston Public School after 17 years. She married Ralph Lee Kerl on March 20, 1944, at Humboldt, together with her sister and brother-in-law, Eveleen and Emil Popelka. Her family moved to Wymore in 1958 from Palmer. Helen was a member of the Wymore Church of Christ and the Kum Join Us Class of the church. She also was a member of the Book Club, the Hucklebuck Card Club, Retired Teachers Association in Beatrice and the AARP in Wymore. Her greatest hobby was reading, and she also took organ lessons. Helen is survived by a daughter, LeAnne Gillott of Wymore; two sons, Roy Alan Kerl and his wife Charlotte “" of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Steven Dale Kerl and his wife Barbara of Colorado Springs, Colo.; by 10 grandchildren, Stephanie, Steve, Janet, Marcia, Sara, Deanna, Nanette, Kylene, Mike and Bradley; by 23 great-grandchildren; by four sisters, Joyce Walsh and her husband Keith, Eveleen Popelka and her husband Emil, all of Pawnee City, Jean Lawson and her husband Louis “" of Weeping Water, Judy Crawford and her husband Dennis of Auburn; by three sisters-in-law, Kate Hubka of California, Luella Fankhauser of Humboldt, Dorothy Kerl of Hiawatha, Kan.; and by a brother-in-law, Henry Kerl and his wife Marie of Beatrice; and by nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Clement Glen and Ina Eveline (Bond) Hubka; by her husband, Ralph Lee Kerl, on Dec. 12, 1986; by a sister, Joan Hubka; and by a brother, Alan Hubka. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2007, at the Wymore Church of Christ, Hwy 77 and M Street, Clayton Lundstedt officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery at Beatrice. There will be no viewing but a register book will be available for signatures at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home, 505 N. Ninth St., Wymore, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials to the church with Clay and Carol Scott in charge. Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home, Wymore, is in charge of arrangements.
