Helen was born on Sept. 8, 1930, in Rockwell, Iowa. Her parents, John and Ella (nee Beecher) Cahill, had 11 children, six which survive today, Mary (the late John) Sturges of Rockwell, Jerry (Andi) Cahill, of Springfield, Ohio, Edward (Patricia) Cahill, of Waterloo, Mike (the late Shirley) Cahill, of Albuquerque, N.M., Tina (Paul) Sturges, of Waverly, and Gigi Cahill of Mequon, Wis. She is preceded in death by siblings Martin, Patrick, Patrice and Jean Marie Cahill. Helen graduated from Rockwell High School in 1948. There she was crowned Miss Rockwell and participated in the North Iowa Band Festival in Mason City. This is a testament to her beauty both on the inside and out. Helen graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in Dubuque, Iowa, in 1952. She worked in surgery in Mason City, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital then Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee. She later worked at Noroton Center in Rowayton, Conn., passionately working to help autistic and mentally handicapped children. Helen fell in love with and married Leo Nash of Little Falls, N.Y,. in 1955. Together they had four children, Mike (Gretchen) Nash, of Lewisburg, Pa., Kathleen (Michael) Cosgrove of Marietta, Ga., Tom (Eileen) Nash, of Glenview, Ill., and Nancy (John) Watkins of Kentfield, Calif. Helen adored her 11 grandchildren. Helen and Leo moved from New Canaan, Conn., in 1988 to Naples, Fla. They both have dedicated time to helping those in need through St. Vincent de Paul. Some of Helen’s favorite times were the annual camping trips with her siblings and 24 nieces and nephews in Rockwell, Iowa. She enjoyed tennis and croquet. Helen will be remembered for her quick laugh and easy smile. She loved her family unconditionally with all her heart and was amazing as a mother and wife. We, her family, are comforted that she is with God, and though we will miss her terribly on Earth we know she will always be with us. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Society of St. Vincent DePaul, St. John’s Conference, 625 111th Ave. N., Naples, FL 34105, or Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105.
