Description	:	Helen Annabelle Hoppe was born August 30,1927 at Goff,Kansas,the first of five children of Oscar L. and Anna Smith Hoppe. She attended Aurora Grade School and Goff High School,graduating in 1945. She also attended Emporia State Teachers College and taught school northwest of Goff. Helen was married to Charles R. Johnstone June 2,1946. They farmed near Goff,then moved to Sabetha,where they made their home for the past 39 years. She entered a Sabetha nursing home earlier this year due to cancer. She is survived by her husband,Charles;a daughter Rose Marie, and three grandchildren, Michael, Michelle and Barbara of Oskaloosa; two sisters, Betty Spiker, of Topeka, Mildred Hines of Emory, Texas; two brothers, Ernest Hoppe of Sabetha and Louis Hoppe of Tecumseh, Kansas. Helen will be remembered for her artistic abilities and talents which she shared with family and friends over the years. Services were held May 19,1986 at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. Rev. Nick Maynard officiated. Organ music was played by Iola M. Popkess, John Walton sang "Precious Memories" and "Whispering Hope." Casketbearers were Darryl Hoppe, Darwin Hoppe, Randy Spiker, Randy Campbell, Robert Skoch, Rick Skoch and Jeffery Hoppe. The interment was made in the Wetmore Cemetery. Memorial contributions were made to the American Cancer Society and sent in care of Popkess Mortuary.
