Luhring, 94, of Greenwood Village, Colo., and formerly of Nashua, passed away Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at the Swedish Medical Center in Littleton, Colo. Helen L. Luhring was born on March 19, 1910, in Nashua, the daughter of Laurence and Rena (Smith) Massey. She attended grade school at village country school in Chickasaw, Iowa. She attended and graduated from New Hampton High School in 1927 and Iowa State Teachers College. Helen taught for 28 years in the following Iowa schools: Jesup, Mason City, Nashua, Immaculate Conception in Charles City and Fredericksburg Public Schools. Helen Massey married Arthur L. Luhring on December 25, 1940. Helen was a member of St. Michael's Guild, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Nashua Boat Club. She supported her children as a Girl Scout Leader, a Cub Scout Den Mother, a 4-H leader and a sports booster at Nashua High School. After living and working in Nashua for 46 years, she sold the Luhring family home in 1986 and moved to Denver, Colo., to be near her family. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov.19, at St. Michael's Catholic Church with burial in St. Michael's Cemetery both in Nashua. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p. m. Thursday with a Rosary service at 3 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or the National Federation of the Blind in Helen's name. Helen is survived by her children: Genevieve (Victor) Garcia of Monument, Colo., and James (Linda) Luhring of Denver Colo.; three grandsons: Eduardo Garcia, Michael (Liz) Luhring and Christopher Luhring; two great-grandchildren: Austin & Katie Luhring.
