Description	:	Helen was the daughter of Walter Aiken and Flora Bicknell. She married Roy Boerner on December 10, 1916. Read More	Helen was the daughter of Walter Aiken and Flora Bicknell. She married Roy Boerner on December 10, 1916. They were the parents of Forrest Deane, Helen Shirley (1921-2007), Kathryn Gayle, Cecile Joanne, and Jarrett Adell. Schleswig Leader - Thursday , November 22nd, 1990 - Helen B. Boemer was born at Tabor, Iowa, June 24. 1895, the daughter of Walter and Florence Bicknell Aitken. She was baptized at Carter Lake, Nebraska, in July of 1908. Helen was raised in Nebraska, receiving her early education in the rural schools before graduating from the Randolph, Nebraska High School with the class of 1913. She then attended the Peru Normal Teachers College at Peru, Nebraska, during the summer sessions of 1913-1915. From 1913 until 1916 she taught in the rural schools in Nebraska. On December 20, 1916 Helen was united in marriage with Roy A. Boerner at the Presbyterian parsonage at Wayne, Nebraska. They made their home at Randolph. From there they homesteaded at Winner, South Dakota, and in 1933, moved to Bartlett where she clerked at the General Grocery Store. They then operated a cafe in 1936 and 1937 at Glenwood, Iowa before moving to Odebolt in 1937. In 1945 they returned to Randolph to care for Helen's parents. From 1948-1960 she was employed as a clerk at the Randolph Ben Franklin Store. Later they operated the Commercial Hotel for one year in Norfolk, Nebraska, prior to moving to Boyer, Iowa. In the spring of 1970 they moved to Denison where they resided until March 16, 1984, when they moved to the Manilla Manor at Manilla, Iowa. Roy died January 22, 1986, and Helen continued to reside at the Manor. Helen died at the manor Wednesday morning, November 14, 1990. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 95 years, 4 months and 20 days. Through the years, as long as her health and eyesight permitted, Helen enjoyed tatting, crocheting and reading. She gave many religious readings at numerous churches from 1926 until 1963. Her last reading was given at the Manilla Manor Mother's Day Tea in 1985. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Randolph, Nebraska, and attended and supported the Wesleyan Church In Denison. Including her husband and parents, Helen was preceded in death by two sons, Forrest Dean Boerner and Robert Dale Boerner; one grandson, Michael McFarland; two granddaughters, Eileen Anderson and Mary Jane Boerner; one great-grandson, James Hoops, and two brothers, Noble and Donald Aitken. Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters: Shirley and husband Ervin Olberding of Mesa, Arizona; Kathryn Linman of Los Fresnos, Texas,;and JoAnne Jenkins of Denison, Iowa: one son, Jerry Boerner and his wife, Beverly, of Mesa, Arizona; 16 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 11 step great-grandchildren; 11 great great-grandchildren; and 12 step great great-grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p m. Saturday November 17, 1990 at the Wesleyan Church in Denison. Rev. Douglas Swarthout was the presiding minister. Vocal selections Included "My Task" and "Beautiful Valley of Eden" and the congregation sang "Face To Face". Organist and vocalist was Suzi Swarthout. Serving as casket bearers were David Mick, Roy McFarland, Kevin McFarland, Leonard Carstensen, Brian Fryar and Leon Carroll. Interment was in the Kiron Cemetery at Kiron, Iowa. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
