Description	:	Helen Andes was the third child of Michael and Mary (Simon) Andes, and the first to be born in their newly adopted homeland. Six months prior to her birth, Helen's parents migrated from Kamenka Russia to the United States. Helen was born December 4, 1899 in Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas as the family was beginning their new life in America. As a young woman Helen worked as a domestic at the Topeka State Hospital where Clyde Lester was also employed as a steam fitter. Helen was born December 4, 1899 in Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas as the family was beginning their new life in America. As a young woman Helen worked as a domestic at the Topeka State Hospital where Clyde Lester was also employed as a steam fitter. It is unknown for sure, but perhaps this is how Helen and her future husband Clyde became acquainted. According to the 1930 Federal census, Clyde was 28 and Helen was 19 when first married. Adding 19 years to Helen's date of birth would make their marriage around 1920. Together they had one son, and they lived their entire married life in the Topeka area. Aunt Helen was my Dad's sister, and I have fond childhood memories of times spent with her. Both she and Uncle Clyde rest in the Mount Calvary Cemetery at Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas.
