Mrs. Melton was owner and operator of Middleburg Variety in Middleburg before her retirement and was a former Mayor of Middleburg. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Henderson. She served on the vestry, a choir member and held several different offices in the Episcopal Church Women’s organization. Read More	Helen Clopton Melton, 87, died Friday, September 5th in a local nursing home. Born in Vance County she was the daughter of the late Walter Henry Clopton and Lillian Ross Clopton. Mrs. Melton was owner and operator of Middleburg Variety in Middleburg before her retirement and was a former Mayor of Middleburg. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Henderson. She served on the vestry, a choir member and held several different offices in the Episcopal Church Women’s organization. Funeral services will be held Sunday, at 4 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, corner of Garnett and Main Sts., conducted by the Rev. Barbara J. Cooke. Internment will be immediately following the service in St. John’s Memorial Garden. Surviving are a son John E. Mann, Jr., of Henderson, a daughter, Vivian M. Edwards of Middleburg, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the home of Frank and Vivian Edwards, 195 Walnut St. Middleburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 974, Henderson, NC 27536.
