She was born in the community of LaFrance, SC on April 24, 1932, the third child and one of six to Elsie and Thomas Dempsey. Later reared in Anderson, SC, she married Harry Saye Whitesides Jr., who predeceased her in 2010. She was born in the community of LaFrance, SC on April 24, 1932, the third child and one of six to Elsie and Thomas Dempsey. Later reared in Anderson, SC, she married Harry Saye Whitesides Jr., who predeceased her in 2010. They had 4 children, Linda, Jean, Harry, and Carol, and 5 grandchildren, Laura, Matthew, Hanna, Garrett and Keira; son-in-law, Ray; and daughter-in-law, Sherry; as well as the family's oft accompanied Maltipoo, Zoey, all very much loved. Helen had been a very active mother and business woman, and was known widely for her arts and craft store in Charlotte, The Talent Tree, where she also taught many craft lessons. She was the heart of her family and always made everyone feel loved and cared for, famed for her delicious cakes and chocolate pie, as well as the most beautiful smile. She will be missed forever. A family graveside service will be held later at the historical Bullock Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org; or Novant Health Hospice, P.O. Box 33549, Charlotte, NC 28233.
