She was born June 11, 1915, in Osborne, Wise., and was the daughter of the late D. Claude and Lottie Susan Thomas Bowman. Miss Bowman moved to Harrisonburg at an early age and attended Waterman Elementary and graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 1935. She was born June 11, 1915, in Osborne, Wise., and was the daughter of the late D. Claude and Lottie Susan Thomas Bowman. Miss Bowman moved to Harrisonburg at an early age and attended Waterman Elementary and graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 1935. Her first job was working in the office of the family plumbing business and then she became a sales representative for Fosteria at the Nicholas Book Store for 25 years. She retired from Service Stationers, where she worked in sales and accounts payable after 25 years there. Helen was a member over 50 years at the Harrisonburg First Church of the Brethren and Sunday school secretary, active with the BZ Sunday school Class and the Friendship Group. She was preceded in death by brothers, Tom, Don and Bill Bowman, and sisters, Vera Harris, Geraldine Hall and Virginia Phillippy. Surviving are nieces and nephews, Jacque and Page Sadler, Susan and Herb Rexrode, Roland Harris, David and Mary Hall, John and Linda Hall, Doug Bowman, Karol and Joe Snyder, Beth "Cricket" and Lee Holt, Tommy and Janet Bowman, Wayne and G.J. Bowman, Linda and Larry Derrer. Also special in her life were their children, Deborah, Lee, Terry, Scott, Tim, Amber, Sidney, Tiffany, Whitney, Kyle, Kevin, Cory, Joseph, Wesley, Debbie, Doug, Nathan, Aaron, and their families and other children. Her family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 8 at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at the Harrisonburg First Church of the Brethren by the Rev. Jimmy Ross. Burial will follow in Woodbine Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Harrisonburg First Church of the Brethren, 315 Dogwood Drive, Harrisonburg, Va., 22801.
