Description	:	Helen D. McMahan, 87 of Montezuma, Iowa passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma at 10:30 am Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 3, beginning at noon with the family present from 6-8 pm at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Burial in the Union Mills Cemetery. Helen Doreen McMahan was the daughter of John Elmer and Jennie Burggraaf McMahan. She graduated from Barnes City High School in 1944 and attended Central College in Pella, Iowa for a short time. She worked for a short time at the Mahaska County Hospital in the Dietary Department. She then began her lifelong job with the Poweshiek County Sheriff's Department as an office deputy. She retired after 37 years. Helen was an avid Hawkeye fan and a Montezuma fan of all sports. She loved her family and became the official organizer of family events. She served on the absentee election board for many years. She was a member of the Community Life Church in Barnes City. Helen was very strong in her faith, independent and strong willed. She made an extraordinary effort in keeping her large family close and involved.
