Description	:	Helen E. Adams, 89, of Ottumwa, died at 10:25 a.m. May 7, 2019 at Hospice House in Ottumwa, surrounded by her family. She was born May 26, 1929 in Fremont, IA to Denver R. and Minnie Virginia Shanks Yeoman. Helen married Jack J. Adams on May 31, 1947 and he preceded her in death on May 23, 2008. A 1946 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Helen had worked at Bell Telephone Co. before staying home to raise her family. She had also worked part time at Younkers. She was born May 26, 1929 in Fremont, IA to Denver R. and Minnie Virginia Shanks Yeoman. Helen married Jack J. Adams on May 31, 1947 and he preceded her in death on May 23, 2008. A 1946 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Helen had worked at Bell Telephone Co. before staying home to raise her family. She had also worked part time at Younkers. She and her husband owned Shepherd of the Hills Cheese Stores. Helen was an avid reader. She and her husband enjoyed being Arizona “snowbirds” for 17 years after his retirement. She enjoyed playing cards with friends at Woodland Estates on Friday and Monday nights and loved spending time with her family. Helen is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Tim) Coker of Ottumwa; daughter-in-law, Debbie Adams Haines of Memphis, MO; 3 grandchildren, Brad (Traci) Coker, Angie (Rochelle) Coker, Shauna Adams; 12 great-grandchildren, Austin, Shayla, Taylar, Catie, Trystin, Tori (Anthony), Symone, Avery (Tori), Parker, Sophia, Derek, and Dylan; a sister, Edna Meeker of Ottumwa; half-brother, Gary Putman of Ottumwa and sister-in-law, Retha Denning of Ottumwa. She was preceded in death by her son, Gene Adams and a granddaughter, Shelby Adams. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with her nephew, Pastor John Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Thursday. The family will be present from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday prior to the service.
