Thornton was born June 5th, 1849 at Beloit, Wisconsin [and] died June 17th, 1920 at her home in Goodland, aged 71 years and 12 days. On February 20, 1866, she was married to John M. Sweet, who preceded her to eternal rest on December 22, 1918. In 1876, they left Wisconsin with her parents, and came west to Nebraska, a few years later homesteading in Graham County, Kansas. Thornton was born June 5th, 1849 at Beloit, Wisconsin [and] died June 17th, 1920 at her home in Goodland, aged 71 years and 12 days. On February 20, 1866, she was married to John M. Sweet, who preceded her to eternal rest on December 22, 1918. In 1876, they left Wisconsin with her parents, and came west to Nebraska, a few years later homesteading in Graham County, Kansas. In the fall of 1890 the family moved to Glen Elder and in 1910 to Vona, Colorado. Since the death of her husband the deceased had been in poor health, but since coming to Goodland last March seemed to be improving somewhat. But she was stricken with cerebral hemorrhage last Thursday morning and in a few hours passed to the great unknown. A consistent Christian from her girlhood, she has left the impression of her character upon many lives and upon all with whom she became intimate, she shed a part of her sweet self, cheering the downhearted and graciously brightening clouds by her pure faith and trust in her maker. She leaves behind her three sons, Frank, C. A. and Harry, all of Goodland; one daughter, Mrs. C. E. Oliver, of Vona, Colorado; one brother I. D. Thornton, of Goodland, and one sister, Mrs. E. A. Behnson also of Goodland; several grandchildren, nephews, and nieces and three great grand-children.
