Description	:	Helen Ehli Smith Thiel left us peacefully July 27, in her home in Billings at the age of 85. She was born Sept. 11, 1926, in Rugby, N. D., being the seventh of eleven children. Helen was raised in North Dakota then married George Smith on Feb. 4, 1946. They spent the next 34 years together, until he passed away in 1980. Read More	Helen Ehli Smith Thiel left us peacefully July 27, in her home in Billings at the age of 85. She was born Sept. 11, 1926, in Rugby, N. D., being the seventh of eleven children. Helen was raised in North Dakota then married George Smith on Feb. 4, 1946. They spent the next 34 years together, until he passed away in 1980. In 1984, she married Conrad Thiel spending 24 years with him until he died Jan. 7, 2010. She lived in Billings for most of her life working in various food service establishments and managed the West Parkway Café for several years. She was an avid Bingo player, enjoyed her Red Hats Society, her condo friends and gatherings, and being a charter member of St. Pius X Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, wife, sister, and aunt who bestowed wonderful baked goods and crocheted items to family and friends. Don't worry Gramma, your Käse Nipfula recipe will live on. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; her daughter Sheila Houghton; sisters Odella, Stella, Clara, Barbara, Marion, Doris, Izzy; and a brother Ole. She is survived by sons Rick (Ellen) Smith of Laurel, Dan (Dian) Smith of Grand Junction, Colo., and Chad Smith of Everett, Wash.; son-in-law Bill Houghton; grandchildren Jodi (Gail) James, Brian Doheny, Stephanie (Cat Starita) Smith, Heather (Joe) Lorenzen, Shawn (Jill) Smith, Josh Smith, Christian and Kennedi Smith; great grandchildren Alexis Smith, Christopher Lorenzen, Liam Smith, Jordan Doheny and Dylan and Ryan James; brother Walt (Barb) Ehli; sister Deloris (Gordy) Rootes; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at St. Pius X Church, 18th Street West and Broadwater Ave. Rite of Committal will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.∼Helen Ehli was born in Selz, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Christ Ehli and Mary Wentz. Helen married George A. Smith 4 Feb 1946 in Billings Montana. George died 3 Jul 1980, and she remarried to the widower Conrad Thiel 23 Feb 1984.
