Helen Frieda Gosch was born Dec. 22, 1910, in Schleswig, Iowa, one of seven children born to Henry and Adelaia (Seahusen) Jors. Helen was united in marriage to Henry William Gosch Jr. in Sioux City on March 21, 1931. The couple farmed in the Ute-Charter Oak area for many years. Along with growing their crops, they raised chickens and cattle. They started farming with just two horses and a plow and later onto tractors. Along with this good life, they also raised 10 wonderful children. Henry died Aug. 15, 1995. Helen, along with her family, were members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute. Helen cherished family life. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She guided her family with positive cheerfulness and strong values that we will always cherish. Survivors include two sisters, Hilda Gust of Mapleton, Iowa, and Garnet Witt of Omaha, Neb.; four sons, Duane Gosch and his wife, Doris of Wichita, Kan., Verdus Gosch and his wife, Diane of Gilbert, Ariz., Larry and his wife, Barb of Sioux City, and Donald Gosch of Parker, Colo.; four daughters, Marlene Eaton and her husband, Al of Wichita, Kan., Jan Hill and her husband, Clyde of Omaha, Linda Garret and her husband, Mickey of Littleton, Colo., and Karen Schrum of Fort Worth, Texas.; a son-in-law, Richard Schimmer of Danbury, Iowa; 28 great-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Ardis McDonald and Lois Schimmer; and four brothers, Clarence, Henry, Raymond and Walter Jors.
