A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 14, 2009 in Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. The Rev. Timothy J. Carr will officiate with burial in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Goddard was born Helen Henrietta Rowson, April 30, 1913 at rural Elvira, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Henrietta (Dohse) Rowson. She married William H. Goddard, January 12, 1933 at the Methodist Church in Low Moor. They farmed near DeWitt until they built a home in DeWitt, in 1965. William preceded Helen in death, February 21, 1980. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, where in past years she was involved in Circles, Ladies Aid and served on several committees. Helen was a member and was involved with PTA, 4-H leader, Hospital Auxiliary, Lioness Club and several other organizations involving her children and her many friends. She was nominee for the 1967 Iowa Mother of the Year representing Clinton County from the Home Economics Extension Program. Helen was a loving and caring person. She touched everyone with her love and thoughtfulness. Surviving are her children, Etta Mae Bergl, Dixon, Illinois, Jean (Rodney) Passig, DeWitt, Sylvia (Richard) Collins, Rock Island, Illinois, Bill (Kathy) Goddard, Charlotte, Ken (Marjorie) Goddard and Chuck (Kay) Goddard both of DeWitt, Randy (Cheri) Goddard, Horicon, Wisconsin; 43 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Dierks, Camanche. In addition to her husband, Helen was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Lulubelle and Dale Campbell, son-in-law, Leonard Bergl, daughter-in-law, Mary Goddard and brothers, Ray, Fred and LaVern Rowson.
