Helen was born Nov. 29, 1924, to Wendelin and Agatha (Feist) Hilzendeger in Kintyre. She was raised and educated south of Kintyre. On March 3, 1947, Helen married Joe Bonogofsky at St. Gertrude Church in Raleigh. Together, they farmed south of Brisbane and later farmed east of Raleigh. Helen retired in 1977 when she sold the farm to Ron and Karen. She and her son, Leo, then owned and operated the Hazelton Bar. In 1985, she moved to Mandan. Helen had an appreciation for nature. While on the farm, she would help her husband in all farm-related duties and maintain a home for her family. All of this required many hours of work and dedication, Helen was up to the task. She was an avid reader of Ann Rule books, giving her many hours of enjoyment. Having been from a large family and having raised her own family, there are many cherished memories that we will remember Helen as a special person we loved. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Shirley Chadwick, Miles City, Mont., and Joyce Bonogofsky, Elgin; sons, Joseph Jr., Casa Grande, Ariz., Jerry (Andi), Baldwin, Ronald (Karen), Shields, Leo, Hazelton, and Tracy, Mandan; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ann Christianson, Mapleton, and Maggie Erickson, Walhalla; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Hilzendeger, Billings, Mont. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, who died in 1974; parents; sisters, Terry, Katie, Christine and Agatha; brothers, Mike, Ben, Valentine, Joe, Alex, Kap and Matt; and granddaughter, Sarah Hummel.
