Description	:	Helen Ida Kratchmer, age 94, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the daughter of Fred and Bertha (Grebein) Peters, on December 1, 1907, in Bremer County, near Frederika, Iowa. She received her education from a rural country school near her home. On March 8, 1928, Helen Peters was united in marriage with John W. Kratchmer at the Peace United Church of Christ in Waverly, Iowa. They made their home and farmed near Shell Rock and Clarksville, Iowa, until 1964 when they moved to Clarksville. Read More	Helen Ida Kratchmer, age 94, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the daughter of Fred and Bertha (Grebein) Peters, on December 1, 1907, in Bremer County, near Frederika, Iowa. She received her education from a rural country school near her home. On March 8, 1928, Helen Peters was united in marriage with John W. Kratchmer at the Peace United Church of Christ in Waverly, Iowa. They made their home and farmed near Shell Rock and Clarksville, Iowa, until 1964 when they moved to Clarksville. In 1978 they celebrated 50 years of marriage. While helping on the farm, Helen also worked as a clerk at the former Poppe's Grocery Store in Clarksville, later she was a cook at the Waverly Air Base and then a clerk at Ken's Grocery Store in Clarksville. She was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville, where she was active in the women's fellowship and was a member of the Antioch Aid Society. She enjoyed making afghans, playing cards with her friends and family, and especially she liked cooking family dinners. Helen died on Thursday, May 9, 2002, at 1:00 a.m. at the Community Nursing Home in Clarksville of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1979; a grandson, Mark Kratchmer; her parents; one brother, Fred Peters; and one sister, Leota Whitney. Funeral Services were at 1:30 p.m., Monday, May 13, 2002, at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville, Iowa with Rev. David Walters officiating. Organist Sharon Leerhoff accompanied congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art," "The Old Rugged Cross," and "Abide With Me".
