She was born May 20, 1938 in Bloomfield to Harold R. and Ruby Sapp Williams. She married Jerry Dean Baker July 28, 1956 and he preceded her in death June 12, 2018. Read More	Helen Joan Baker, 83, of Ottumwa, died at 11:10 a.m. March 9, 2022 at Baptist Health Hospital in Louisville, KY. She was born May 20, 1938 in Bloomfield to Harold R. and Ruby Sapp Williams. She married Jerry Dean Baker July 28, 1956 and he preceded her in death June 12, 2018. A 1956 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Helen had worked at Wapello Dairy and Younkers. She was a bookkeeper at South Hy-Vee and for the past 15 years, worked in the greenhouse at South Hy-Vee, just because she could at age 80 plus. Helen was an avid Hawkeye fan and a fan of any basketball and football games. She also enjoyed working in her flowers, camping and taking vacations with her family and "Road Tripping" Missy, her beloved cat. She golfed, worked at the Iowa State Fair, bowled for years and was inducted in the Bowling Hall of Fame. She and Jerry wintered in Mesa, AZ for 15 years and since Jerry's death, she and Missy have wintered in Louisville at her son's home. Surviving are her children, Tammy (Dan) Post of Albia and Ed (Cathy) Baker of Louisville, KY; 3 grandchildren, Michael (Heather) Hirter of Louisville, KY, Bryan (Tori) Baker of Floyds Knobs, IN and Kyle (Tiana) Smith of Bondurant, IA; 4 great-grandchildren, Shaun, Hailey, Leighton and Georgia Dean; a sister, Bonnie (Ron) Holder; a brother, Bob (Geri) Williams; brothers-in-law, David (Sue) Baker, Harold Allman and sister-in-law, Beverly (Dale) Coleman. She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Corey Smith; a brother, Jerry Williams and a sister, Doris Allman. We all know Dad greeted her in heaven with a big smile on his face saying, "Hi Sissy!" Visitation will be open at 11 a.m. Friday, March 18th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 19th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. For those unable to attend the service, it may be viewed on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment will be in Shaul Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to Heartland Humane Society, Hosparus Health Inpatient Care Center Louisville or to the family for a bench to be placed in her honor.
