Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ponca, with the Rev. David Liewer officiating. Burial will be in Calvary at South Creek Cemetery, rural Ponca. Visitation with the family present will begin 5 p.m. today, with a 6:45 p.m. rosary and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca. Helen was born March 19, 1906, to Peter and Margaret "Maggie" (Marx) Berens. She was born and raised in the Ponca area and graduated from St. Catherine's Academy in Jackson, Neb., in 1923. She then attended Rosary College in Chicago, Ill., and graduated in 1927. After college, she returned to the family farm and lived there until moving to Elm's Health Care Center in Ponca in 2001. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church at South Creek, then St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ponca and was also a member of St. Joseph's Altar Society. Helen enjoyed garden and animals. She is survived by many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Norbert in 1973; and a sister, Susan, in 1989.
