Johnson died at her home in Fairdale precinct last Friday night after an illness of four weeks from blood-poison resulting from childbirth. While not unexpected, the news came as a shock to many friends in this community who had hoped that the gallant fight for life made by the young mother might be crowned with victory. Her condition had been pronounced exceedingly serious by attending physicians more than a week before her death. She was faithfully attended by her husband, parents, brothers and sisters, as well as by Mr. Johnson’s parents and sister, but the combined efforts of all these loving hands could not save her from the grave. The body was brought to the residence of J. L. Johnson Sunday morning from whence after a brief prayer it was borne to the Methodist church at 3 o’clock p.m. Appropriate services were held by Dr. George A. Ray, after which burial was made in the city cemetery. Mrs. Johnson, whose maiden name was Helen Josephine Brower, was born in Pontiac, Ill., in October, 1879, being less than 26 years old when she died. She graduated from the Kansas City (Mo.) high school with the class of 1898, joining her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Brower, in St. Paul the year following. Being an expert stenographer, she was employed in the central offices of the American Home association for several months, during which time she won the esteem of all who met her as an industrious loyal and modest girl. She was married to James Claybourne Johnson November 8, 1900. The following spring she moved with her husband to his farm three miles east of Cotesfield, where she resided until claimed by the grim reaper. She leaves two children, a boy of about 2 years and a girl 1 month old. They sympathy of the entire community is extended to the husband and other relatives in their terrible bereavement.
