That would substantiate the 3 children as being adopted in her 1st marriage and the names of the children coincide with the names listed on Nellies obituary. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OBIT: Nellie Julia Lewis, the only daughter of Joseph and Henrietta Stevens, was born April 12, 1878, at Dorchester, Neb. At an early age she came to the Miller community, where she resided until her death on November 23, 1956, at the age of 78 years, 7 months, and 11 days. She taught school for several years and always maintained an interest in the educational procedures of our present day schools. Mrs. Lewis, during her first marriage, to Frank Merryman, adopted three children, two girls Mrs. Marie Holliday of Bellingham, Wash., and Mrs. Merna LeBar of Tucson, Ariz., and one son, Miles Merryman, who was killed in an automobile accident in 1955. She was united in marriage to Willie H. Lewis on Feb. 5, 1918. They made their home on a farm just south of Miller. Many youth made their home with the Lewis'. After his death in May of 1950, Mrs. Lewis continued to live there and to manage the farm. Two brothers survive, Charles of Angus, Neb., and George of Danville, Ark. Four brothers preceeded her in death in addition to her parents. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Mrs. Lewis was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Miller.
