Kate Jordan, age 93 of Boone, died January 23, 2020 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home. Helen Kathleen 'Kate' Jordan, was born May 25, 1926, at home in rural Boone County near Gilbert, Iowa, the daughter of Ray and Ethyl (McGlynn) Pepper. Kate was the sixth of 13 children. She attended rural school for her elementary years, graduating from Story City High School in Story City, Iowa in 1944. Kate completed her college education at the University of Iowa, majoring in English and graduating in 1948. On June 10, 1950, Kate married Richard T.'Dick' Jordan at the Sacred Heart Church in Boone. The couple lived most of their lives on a farm, east of Boone and raised four children. Kate will be missed tremendously and will be remembered for many reasons, number one for being a fabulously entertaining and generous grandmother. She also will be remembered for her fierce independence, her extremely charitable and compassionate nature, her unquenchable thirst for knowledge and learning, her love and support of the fine arts and, last, but not least, her uncanny ability of never-ever forgetting a name. Kate is survived by her husband, Dick of Boone; her daughter, Ann (Peter) Umbaugh of Avondale Estates, Georgia; three sons, John (Marilyn) Jordan of Boone, Mike (Leslee) Jordan of Ames and Bill (Rhonda) Jordan of Donnellson; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Jensen of Boone and Joan Kerrigan of West Covina, California; two brothers, Gene Pepper and Bill Pepper both of Boone; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Phil, Bernard, Raymond 'Bud', and Reverend Dave Pepper; sisters, Bernadine Kalen, Margaret McCartney, Betty Driver, and Jane Pepper. Per Kate's wishes, her body has been gifted to the University of Iowa, Department of Anatomy in Iowa City. A private family burial will be held at a later date. A Celebration of Kate's Life will be held at the Cedar Point Golf Course, (601 South Cedar Street, Boone) on February 29, 2020, from 2 until 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Shriner's Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, the Ericson Public Library, Boone, the Eastern Star Masonic Home, Boone or to the family and sent to John Jordan, 1417 Quill Ave. Boone, Iowa 50036 The Jordan family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at the Eastern Star Home for their care and concern given to their wife and mother.
