She began her professional career in 1967 with First Citizens Bank and in 1974 accepted an administrative position with the Raleigh School System which later merged with the Wake County School System. Kaye was born on September 2, 1949 at Mary Elizabeth Hospital in Raleigh, NC to the late William "Milton" Walls and Erma Wilson Walls. She was a graduate of Broughton High School in Raleigh. She began her professional career in 1967 with First Citizens Bank and in 1974 accepted an administrative position with the Raleigh School System which later merged with the Wake County School System. For 21 years she worked as an administrative secretary for the school Curriculum and Instruction Department, the Transportation Department, and to the offices of the Athletic Director, Driver Education Director, and Health and Physical Education Director. In 1995 she transferred to Apex High School for an opportunity to work directly with the students. She retired in 2004 and then immediately returned to Apex High School as a substitute teacher where she worked until her health would no longer allow her do so. She loved the students she worked with and the students loved her.
