Born in Luray, Va., on Oct. 24, 1916, she was one of five children born to William Ashby and Mamie Comer Lillard. She graduated from Luray High School. In 1935, she married Kenneth L. Born in Luray, Va., on Oct. 24, 1916, she was one of five children born to William Ashby and Mamie Comer Lillard. She graduated from Luray High School. In 1935, she married Kenneth L. Browning Burrill who died in 1996. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Mrs. Burrill lived most of her adult life in the Shenandoah, Va., area and in Lexington, Va. At the time of her retirement, she was on the office staff at the International Headquarters of Sigma Nu Fraternity in Lexington. She was an active member of First Christian Church in Shenandoah until she moved to Hampton in 1997 to be near her daughter and family. She loved working for the Lord through her church and had touched many lives through her years of dedicated service there. Surviving are her daughter and husband, Gwendolyn Burrill Hatfield and Jack J. Hatfield, her granddaughter and husband, Susan Hatfield Howland and Gregory Howland, and great-grandchildren, Melissa Ann Howland and John Hatfield Howland, all of Yorktown, Va. Also surviving are her sister, Lillian Lillard Jenkins of Luray, and beloved nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at First Christian Church, Shenandoah. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church. Private burial will take place in Beahm's Chapel Cemetery in Luray. The family wishes to express special appreciation to Mrs. Burrill's caregivers, the staff at the Devonshire Retirement Community and Personal Touch Hospice. It was Mrs. Burrill's wish that any memorials take the form of contributions to First Christian Church, 312 Third St., Shenandoah, VA 22849. Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions of Hampton and Bradley Funeral Home of Luray are providing services for the family. Obituary, Daily Press, November 16, 2005.
