Ms.Kinsey was born in Barton on September 14, 1948, and grew up on the family farm as the oldest of five surviving brothers and sisters. Ms.Kinsey was born in Barton on September 14, 1948, and grew up on the family farm as the oldest of five surviving brothers and sisters. She attended West Glover, South Albany, and East Albany graded schools, and graduated from Craftsbury Academy in 1966 as valedictorian and went on to graduate magna cum laude from the University of Vermont. She was a lifelong member of the East Craftsbury Presbyterian Church, established by her Scottish ancestors, in whose homeland she had traveled. She worked for 33 years at what is now Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington as a medical technologist before being stricken and taken from that important work. She was named for her maternal grandmother, Helen Rowell, and like her became a great quilter. Family and friends were the recipients of many quilts as gifts, especially newborns. She traveled widely in the Northeast United States in search of genealogical history and followed up on her great interest in the Civil War. Her paternal great-great-grandfather was a survivor of the Sultana steamboat disaster associated with that war. Her correspondence with genealogists and others interested in history covered that area as well, but was also much further flung.
