Description	:	Helen Louise Henthorn, 82, passed away in her home at Big Laurel, KY on the 22nd July, 2013. Helen was born January 17, 1931, in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa to the late Harold M. and Lona B. McDowell Long. She grew up in the Salem, Iowa community, where she attended the local Pleasant Lawn School. Helen became an active member of the Cedar Creek Friends Church after she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour. Read More	Helen Louise Henthorn, 82, passed away in her home at Big Laurel, KY on the 22nd July, 2013. Helen was born January 17, 1931, in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa to the late Harold M. and Lona B. McDowell Long. She grew up in the Salem, Iowa community, where she attended the local Pleasant Lawn School. Helen became an active member of the Cedar Creek Friends Church after she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour. She lead the singing, and taught Sunday School classes at the Cedar Creek Church. Later she and her husband attended Grace Community Friends Church in Mt. Pleasant, IA. She married the late Bill Henthorn on March 6, 1981, and resided in Salem, Iowa before moving to Mt. Pleasant, IA. After Bill's home going, Helen moved to Big Laurel, KY and lived there until Jesus took her to her eternal home. After moving to Kentucky she attended the Little Laurel Bible Church in Big Laurel, KY. Helen was also a member of a singing group called Sweet Adeline's for several years. She enjoyed singing, dancing and riding her bike. She loved working with her hands and growing a garden. She especially took pride in her flowers. Helen enjoyed fellowship and especially Bingo with her senior friends at the Green Hills Community Center in Bledsoe, Ky. Helen worked 18 years at the Sylvania Plant in Burlington, IA and also at Heatalator in Mt. Pleasant, IA. She has spent many hours as a prayer warrior for her family and for many friends around the world. She truly loved people and witnessed for Jesus wherever and whenever she had a chance. Survivors include one aunt, Marjorie Smith of Salem, IA. Two daughters, Karen Louise (Terry) Duncan of Nairobi, Kenya; and Deborah Jean (the late Titus) Boggs of Big Laurel, KY: six grandchildren: Robbie Duncan, Brent Duncan, Tiana Duncan, Teresa Duncan Johnstone, Nathan Boggs and Hannah Boggs Poe: and five great- grandchildren; and by marriage , two daughters, Cynthia Joy (James) Hail of Coeur d'Alene, ID; Mary (David) Houtz of Middletown, IA; and one son, Mark (Ann) Henthorn of Muscatine, IA: and four great-great children. A memorial service will be held at 5pm on Wednesday, July 24 at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home in Harlan, KY with Pastor Tom Palmer officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Salem East Cemetery in Salem, Iowa. Memorials have been established to Laurel Mission, 77 Cedar Chapel Rd, Big Laurel, KY 40808; Salem Friends Church, Salem, IA & World Gospel Mission, Box 948, Marion, IN 46952.
