Born July 29, 1919, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Otto and Leota Allgood Helmick. She married Harley L. Glassford Dec. 24, 1938, in Fort Madison; he died Nov. 29, 1944. She then married James E. Smith June 8, 1957 in Fort Madison; he died Aug. 6, 1981. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She was a member of Fort Madison United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Faith Circle, Fort Madison Senior Citizens, the National Association of Retired Railway Employees and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, hosting parties, time with family and friends and the Tri-State Rodeo parade, since she lived on Avenue G and the parade went past her house for years. Survivors include one son, Don Smith of Fort Madison: one stepson, Jimmy Smith of Richmond, MO.: six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, one daughter, two stepdaughters, one stepson, one grandson, three brothers and two sisters. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory, with the family receiving friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Smith will be at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Lane Van officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
