Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel-Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials are prefered to the First Baptist Church of Le Mars. Helen Lucinda Kern was born September 15, 1917, at home in Le Mars, Iowa, to William and Mary Ellen (Shoemaker) Kern. She graduated from Le Mars High School in 1935. Helen worked as a professional secretary for an insurance company in Le Mars before marrying Clyde Coppock on June 4, 1939. She continued working until the birth of her children. Helen was very active in the First Baptist Church as a choir member, a Sunday school teacher, and a member of several church groups. Helen was a member of Eastern Star, and she and Clyde were active in LCHS Band Parents. She served as Secretary to the LCHS Board of Education, secretary to the High School Principal and to the Superintendent of Schools. Clyde passed away on March 1, 1965. Later, she served as the secretary to the Plymouth County Engineer until her marriage to Adrian Kale in 1976. Helen and Adrian then traveled extensively while making their home in Punta Gorda, Florida, and Spirit Lake, Iowa. After Adrian's death, she moved back to Le Mars in 2006. Helen loved reading, quilting, and playing mah jongg. She liked to bake, and her homemade cinnamon rolls were family favorites. She especially loved the Christmas season: the carols, decorations, and being with her family. Survivors include a son, Darrell (Kathy) Coppock of The Villages, FL; 4 grandchildren: David (Janet) Coppock of Lake Jovita, FL; Kim (Todd) Scott of Kansas City, MO; Suzanne (Toby) Jackson of Overland Park, KS; and William (Heather) Bates of Bismarck, ND; 9 great grandchildren: Dain, Erin, and Kiley Coppock; Teryn and Trevor Scott; Treaux and Ella Jackson; and Jessi and Abigail Bates; 4 nieces: Barbara Widman, Connie Dutka, Beverly Lindsay, and Nancy Yoder. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Ellen (Shoemaker) Kern; her husbands, Clyde Coppock and Adrian Kale; a daughter, Janice Kay (Coppock) Bates; sisters, June Jennings and Lois Tindall; brothers-in-law, George Jennings, Stanley Tindall, and Ashton Coppock; a sister-in-law, Dorothy (Ahern) Coppock; and a son-in-law, William W.
