At an early age, Helen moved to a farm in Wayne County. She graduated from Wayne High School in 1940 and attended Wayne State College for two years. She married Lawrence Allen Heikes September 12, 1943 in Miami, Florida. At an early age, Helen moved to a farm in Wayne County. She graduated from Wayne High School in 1940 and attended Wayne State College for two years. She married Lawrence Allen Heikes September 12, 1943 in Miami, Florida. After Lawrence's discharge from the Army Air Force in 1945, they lived on farms in the Obert, Coleridge, and Belden communities. In 1984 they retired and moved to Coleridge. Lawrence died on August 9, 2000 at the age of 78. Helen was a member of the Immanuel Luthern Church and ILCW. She enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and playing cards. Helen is survivied by her four children and their spouses, Sharyn and Neal Willms of Omaha, NE; Russell and Marilyn Heikes of Berryville, VA; Marcia and Les Mathine of Parker, CO; Wanda Rusch of Denver CO; 5 grandaughters; 5 grandsons; 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Ester Janke of Simi Valley, CA. Preceding her in death were Helen's parents, husband Lawrence, one great granddaughter.
