She was educated in the Postville Public Schools, from which she graduated in 1911. Her class celebrated its fiftieth commencement anniversary this year. She attended Grinnell college. Iowa, and the University of Nebraska. In 1915 she took a position in the Postville State Bank, where she served as bookkeeper until her marriage. On September 26. 1918 she was married to Arbe Behrens. They lived on the Behrens homestead farm for a number of years, until they purchased the Mort Deering farm north of Postville, where they resided until moving to Postville in 1951. In 1954 they purchased the Behrens homestead farm, where they built a new home in which they lived until the spring of 1960. At that time they moved to Postville again, where they have since resided. Helen Behrens was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Postville, and a long time member of the Order of Eastern Star, Postville Chapter No. 238. She belonged to the Past Matrons' Club of that organization. She was also an active member of Postville Monday Club and Post Township Study Club. Mrs. Behrens' father died in 1950, and her mother in 1955. Of her immediate family her husband, Arbe Behrens, survives; and her sister, Mrs. Louis Hill, both of Postville. One aunt, Mrs. Carrie Cornell, lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Four nephews and two nieces and 18 cousins also mourn her loss. Funeral services were conducted at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Postville on Thursday, August 10, with the Rev. Justin L. Silvius officiating. Burial was in Postville cemetery.
