She was 97 years, 4 months and 13 days of age. She is survived by one nephew, Terry L. & Sandy Grace of Oskaloosa; four nieces: Beatrice & Roger Manlick of Necedah, WI; Karen L. & Dan Rees of Pekin, IL; Frances & Dick Dickinson of Ottumwa, IA; and Colleen & Don Motz of Des Moines, IA. She was 97 years, 4 months and 13 days of age. Helen's extended family also includes numerous great nieces and nephews as well as great-great nieces and nephews. Helen Margery Grace, daughter of Fred and Daisy Lockard Grace, was born in Lacey, Iowa September 28, 1909. The family lived on a farm outside of town where she enjoyed raising sheep. She and her brother, Warren, attended Lacey Country School. Family was important to Helen and she demonstrated this by caring for her father and her mother. In December 1941, Helen married Orval F. Flanders, they made their home in Oskaloosa. Helen was employed by Mahaska Overall Manufacturing for 24 years. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, and quilting at home. Two large gardens kept her busy with produce for canning and cooking. These were two of her favorite pastimes. Helen demonstrated her great faith by way of action. As a very active member of Lacey United Methodist Church, Helen made cookies, pies, and helped with soup suppers. She passed on her values to her extended family by means of discipline, stewardship, commitment, and love. Helen read her bible daily and shared her insights with her family. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Warren L. Grace, and one niece, Carol Grace Derringer. (above from Langkamp Funeral Chapel web site.)
