Celebration of Life Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at the Salem Lutheran Church, 602 West Townline Street in Creston. Pastor Jeff Alvestad will officiate. Burial will be at Memory Cemetery, near New Market at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Helen Marie Herzberg, daughter of John Arnold Bashor and Mae Ellen (Combs) Bashor was born May 27, 1930 in Taylor County. Helen graduated from New Market High School in 1948. Soon after graduation she began working as a secretary at Production Credit in Clarinda, Ia. On July 27, 1952, Helen was united in marriage to Bernard “Ben” Herzberg at St. John Lutheran Church in Clarinda. They settled in Clarinda for a short time before moving to a farm in Page County where Helen began working as a homemaker. On December 31, 1959, Helen moved to Creston, Iowa where she continued to work as a homemaker until 1970 when she began working at Iowa State Savings Bank as a bookkeeper for a short time. In 1974, Helen began working as a bookkeeper for Creston Community Schools, working for 21 years, retiring in 1995. Helen was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and Creston Retired Teachers Organization. Helen is survived by her husband, Ben; three sons, Kevin (wife Betty), Lanny (wife Donna) and Brent (wife Cynthia); daughter, Reasa; fourteen grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Dalphon (wife Rosvelyn) Bashor, Donald (wife Maxine) Bashor and Charles (wife Beverly) Bashor and a sister, Darlene (husband Dick) Graham.
