Description	:	Mrs. Helen M. Knoche, 96, formerly of Grand Mound, died Friday evening, June 19, 2015 at Good Samaritan Center, Davenport, Iowa. Mrs. Knoche was born Helen Marie Kahl, April 22, 1919, in Cedar County, Iowa, to William J. and Louise (Schmidt) Kahl. On February 14, 1941, she was united in marriage to Frank Knoche in Lowden, Iowa. This union was blessed with three children. The couple farmed at Lowden until 1958 when they moved to Grand Mound. Mrs. Knoche was born Helen Marie Kahl, April 22, 1919, in Cedar County, Iowa, to William J. and Louise (Schmidt) Kahl. On February 14, 1941, she was united in marriage to Frank Knoche in Lowden, Iowa. This union was blessed with three children. The couple farmed at Lowden until 1958 when they moved to Grand Mound. In addition to raising their family, Helen owned and operated Helen's Cakes and Catering in Grand Mound for 32 years. Her husband, Frank preceded her in death on October 17, 1999. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ, DeWitt. Helen was the first woman mayor of the City of Grand Mound. She served as a board member of Great River Bend Area Agency on Aging and Nutrition and had special interest in the program for noon meals. Helen also served on the board of Visiting Nurses Association and Older Iowans Legislature. She enjoyed time spent as a member of the Golden Anniversary Club and the Plus 60 Club. Helen loved bowling, traveling, playing cards and time spent with friends and relatives, especially her children and grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Frank, Helen was preceded in death by a grandson, Todd Dalton; her parents; a brother, Fred Kahl and a brother-in-law, Elmer Hack. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2015 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt with the Rev. Jeff Wartgow officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Mound. Schultz Funeral Homes
