May, 83, of Scotia died Sun., Dec. 10, 2000 at the Howard Community Hospital in St. Paul. Services were at 11 a.m. Wed., Dec. 13 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia. The Rev. Mark Middendorf officiated. Graveside services were at 2:30 pm on Wednesday at the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Mrs. May was born Oct. 30, 1917 on the family farm nine miles north of St. Paul in the Logan area to Henry and Laura (Pedersen) Petersen. She attended District 21 rural school in the Logan area to the tenth grade and then attended St. Paul High School, graduating in 1937. Mrs. May then taught school at the Indian Hill school near Cushing and rural school district #2 near St. Paul. She then attended the Bonnell Beauty Academy in Hastings. She was a beautician and operated her own beauty shop in St. Paul for 12 years. On Sept. 12, 1948, she married Dale May in St. Paul. The couple lived in Scotia. She continued to operate her beauty shop in St. Paul as well as a beauty shop in Scotia for eight and one-half years. She then sold her shop in St. Paul but continued to operate her shop in Scotia until her retirement in 1986 after 38 years. Mrs. May was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Scotia. After taking First Aid courses, she was a volunteer treasurer for the Scotia EMT Unit for 19 years. Survivors include her husband and two sisters, Florence (Mrs. Richard) Hanisch of St. Paul and Jean (Mrs. Richard) Wells of Fullerton, CA. She was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Garrison; two brothers, Harlan and Howard Petersen and a half-brother, Clayton Peterson Contributor: Kathy Burgess Burr (47226369)
