Description	:	The funeral services for Miss Helen Brown were held at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brown, northwest of Salem, Monday, April 18, at 10:30 a.m. The spacious home was filled , and many were in the yard. The junior class of the local high school of which she was a former member, attended in a body. Mrs. Bessie F. The junior class of the local high school of which she was a former member, attended in a body. Mrs. Bessie F. Collins brought words of comfort from Thess. 18, and the songs "Does Jesus Care" and "Abide With Me" were sung by the Rev. and Mrs. Paul Barnett, accompanied by Mrs. Leah Berry. The remains were laid to rest in the Cedar Friends Cemetery and pall bearers were Chester Brown, Leonard Brown, Rex Brown, Kenneth Burkey, and Harry Townsend. Helen Marjorie Brown was born near Salem, Iowa, on July 24, 1921, and departed this life on April 16, 1938, at the early age of 16 years, 8 months, and 23 days. She attended the public schools and spent two years at the Salem High School but was forced to discontinue on account of poor health. Helen was of loving and cheerful disposition and although many of her years of life were marred by ill health, she never complained and many more fortunate people could do well to imitate her bravery and cheerfulness. She leaves to mourn her passing, her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brown, two sisters, Mrs. Howard Burkey, Salem, Iowa, and Mrs. Walter Barton of Washington, Iowa, her little niece and nephew Dorothy Burkey and Kenneth Barton, to whom she was much devoted, and a host of relatives and friends. -- Mount Pleasant (Iowa) News, May 3, 1938, page 6.
