Description	:	Helen Mary ROMAIN (09/06/1920 - 01/06/2014) Helen Romain passed peacefully away on January 6, 2014, in Seattle, but she lived most of her life in the Spokane Valley. There she worked for many years at Mel's Bakery in Veradale, where she was known for dispensing both laughter and doughnuts; and, as a member of the school lunch program at Central Valley High School, where she influenced the lives of many young children. Read More	Helen Mary ROMAIN (09/06/1920 - 01/06/2014) Helen Romain passed peacefully away on January 6, 2014, in Seattle, but she lived most of her life in the Spokane Valley. There she worked for many years at Mel's Bakery in Veradale, where she was known for dispensing both laughter and doughnuts; and, as a member of the school lunch program at Central Valley High School, where she influenced the lives of many young children. Helen was born September 6th, 1920 in Cottonwood, Idaho, married Vincent Romain from Keuterville, Idaho and moved to Spokane Valley where Helen was an active member of St. Mary's Parish for more than 65 years. She was involved in many St. Mary's School activities, was a member of the Altar Society, and also served as a Lay Minister. Helen valued her family, her friends, and her faith throughout her long and productive life. She had a real gift for friendship and an open heart that had a place for everyone she met. Her positive attitude and strength of spirit weathered the loss of her husband Vincent, her two children, Ron and Carol, and an infant grandchild, Ryan Romain, long before their time. Helen is survived by three of her children: son Don Romain (and wife Bonnie), daughter Kathy White; and son Greg Romain (and wife Lauren). She also leaves ten grandchildren: Scott and Kyle Romain; A.J. and Travis White; Annette Atkinson, Brian Atkinson and Cheryl Atkinson Jester; Ronald Romain; and Hailee and Deven Romain, as well as four great-grandchildren. Services are set for 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 18 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 304 S. Adams Road, Spokane Valley, WA 99216. Donations can be made in her name to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society . Published in Spokesman-Review on Jan. 12, 2014
