Mrs. Varney, 89, of Walcott, formerly of Durant, died on Sunday, December 25, 2011, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport. Helen Pauline Miles was born April 23, 1922, to Russell and Faye (Byers) Miles in Minburn, IA. She married William L. Varney on April 27, 1941, in Kahoka, MO. He preceded her in death May 27, 1995. Helen was the director of housekeeping at the Davenport Lutheran Home for many years retiring in 1987. She enjoyed crafts and traveling. Above all, she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She is survived and lovingly remembered by three daughters, Janet and her husband Jerry Schiebel, of Washington, IA, Cindy and her husband Rick Miedema, of Walcott, IA, and Brenda and her husband Terry Thompson, of Sparta, MO; two sons, Russell and his wife Lorna, of Forsyth, MO, and Michael Varney of Lewisville, TX; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, her grandson, Jason Varney, her sister, Vivian Mitchell and her brothers, Charles, Roscoe, Russell and Donald Miles. Bentley Funeral Home
