Description	:	Helen (Degen) Garvis, 94 August 7, 1911 - February 23, 2006 Funeral services for Helen Rose Garvis were held Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, at 10:30 a.m., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ethan. Burial was made in the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, Ethan, with Will Funeral Chapel, Mitchell, in charge of arrangements. Helen was born on August 7, 1911, at Ethan to Anton and Catherine (Brings) Degen. She attended school and graduated from Ethan High School. She married Homer Garvis on January 31, 1933. Burial was made in the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, Ethan, with Will Funeral Chapel, Mitchell, in charge of arrangements. Helen was born on August 7, 1911, at Ethan to Anton and Catherine (Brings) Degen. She attended school and graduated from Ethan High School. She married Homer Garvis on January 31, 1933. They farmed west of Ethan. She worked at Mike's Corner Cafe part-time. Following her husband's death in 1977, she moved to Ethan. She moved to Avera Brady Health and Rehab on February 6, 2006. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Altar Society, the Harry Weeks Aid, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Ethan Senior Citizens and Catholic Daughters. She died Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Avera Brady Health and Rehab. She attained the age of 94 years. She is survived by her children, Donald Garvis and wife, Janette, Ethan, Eldon Garvis, Ethan, Joan Garvis, Cle Elum, Wash., Mary and husband, Pat Shevlin, Columbus, Neb., and Ruth Daley, Mitchell; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Homer, in 1977; daughter, Elaine; son, Charles; brother, Joe Degen; two sisters, Anne Tyler and Eva Virnig; granddaughter, Mary Dawn Garvis; and a grandson, Jason Charles Daley.
